Blogger Status: Doing Weekend Plans
Hi everyone.
A Good Weekend to all!
Today, I´m going to do an afternoon "program" with my daughter. We´re going to Algarve Forum mall.
First, we´re going to buy some groceries. After putting all bags in the car, we´re going to eat out. I´m not sure which restaurant to choose, yet.
After dinner, we´re going to the cimema. The last movie I saw in the cinema was "The Story of a Bee", in one of this programs with my daughter. The movie we want to see today is "Bedtime Stories".
After this evening out (which I´m sure it will be fun) I´m going to arrive home later than usual, around 23.30 pm.
Tonight, I´d like to update some of my other blogs and I also need to think about my next Music Monday post. With all this chores to do, this Sunday I won´t have time to post in Night Clicks, unless there´s a good reason.
But don´t worry, you´ll have enough to read in my previous posts :)

Social Media Marketing Campaign: A Case Study
IZEA, the company that owns Pay Per Post and Social Spark, recently completed Kmart´s social media marketing campaign.
Broadly speaking, a social media marketing campaign consists in the promotion of content, products or services using social networks. This campaigns can also include viral content that was created to be shared by users of social networks. Social networks can be considered the latest online trend to socialize with family and friends or to meet other Internet users.
I think that a social media marketing campaign can be very effective because it doesn´t focus on a single source of advertising and can have a wider reach. In online and offline advertising, the rules are the same: more exposure is better which is the same as "more visitors, more buyers".
In a short period of time the blogosphere has grown immensely. Many blogs have a large number of readers, followers and feed subscribers. This blogs have a vast audience and can be an effective resource to advertise different types of products. Word of mouth marketing can be effective for advertisers, like what happened in in Kmart´s campaign.
In this campaign, some bloggers received a compensation to promote Kmart in their blogs and were incentive to post about their shopping experience with this company.

My Adsense Lessons

Because Adsense is one of my best earners, I´d like to share some lessons I learned with my experience. Hope they´re useful to some.
~ Ad placement - This issue is very important to have good results, check out Adsense website for advise. They have a map with the best ad placement spots.
In my blogs, the ads that work best are on top, the first third, below the header and on top of the sidebar column.
My most clicked ad units are horizontal lines, sidebar squares and buttons with links. I think the colours used in ads also have an important role. In my experience, the more ads look like normal links embed in the blog, the more they are clicked. I try to use ads with the same or similar colours of the blog. I normally use black or dark grey links but the background of the ad unit matches my blog´s main tone.
~ Traffic - Traffic is the key to conversion. In theory, a higher number of visitors converts in a higher number of clicks. Well, this isn´t always true. You can have many visitors and little or no clicks, like what happens with EC. It all depends on the visitors.
I have this theory that webmasters and bloggers don´t click in ads much (they´re adblind) but I can´t be sure. It´s only a theory of mine.
I think this is the real "Adsense Secret": If I knew what motivates people to click, I would make a living online.

In a recent post, I shared my experiences with my art blog. This blog is my best Adsense earner and most of it´s traffic comes from Google search engine. I don´t need to move a finger to have a few hundred visitors every day. Those visitors click but how can I know why?
In sum: I think it´s not easy to make a good income with Adsense. If you have a website with the best paid keywords and tons of visitors that click, you can consider yourself very lucky.
If you´re not in this lucky minority you can always research to find good niches, check Adwords PPC values and build several websites or blogs around the topics that pay well but have less competiton.

New Blogger Followers Widget
Blogger has now a new widget for Blogspot blog followers.
If you haven´t checked it yet, take a look at it in my sidebar.
I think it looks better than the previous widget. It stands out more, don´t you think?
I noticed the new widget yesterday but after this changes my lost followers were gone for good. Maybe it´s because anonymous followers aren´t displayed in the widget.
To see the number of followers growing is motivating but shrinking doesn´t feel the same. I can´t complain much, I´m a happy blogger as it is.
By the way, I need to send a Thanks to all my followers. I will be visiting all of you soon.

I haven´t tried to fix my PC yet, I´m avoiding the frustration. I´m still using S. notebook but I have to fix mine very soon because he will need this one.
So, what I´ve been up to?
I bought another domain with a discount code but I haven´t touched it yet. I think I was lucky, the five letter domain I wanted was free. In the next weeks, I´ll be working in this project too.
In the past days I had a few good opportunities I couldn´t miss. Even with this opportunities I won´t be able to reach the same amounts I was doing last year. Plus, the dollar is so low right now. I´ve been waiting for a better exchange rate since December but nothing seems to happen.
My school stuff is another priority right now. To read articles and work on my project I have to unplug, which is sooo difficult for me this days.
Ok, enough musings. Right now, I´m off to EC :)

Blog Followers e Updates
It´s confirmed, there were some PR changes and not only in my blogs. Yesterday, while returning drops and bloghopping, I had the chance to check this information.
About Blog Followers: I´ve noticed that I have less followers in all my blogs but the number of feed subscribers hasn´t changed.
Yesterday, I read in another blog that Google is doing some changes in their readers and this followers became temporary anonymous, until all changes are done. I was wondering why Night Clicks lost over ten followers at once, but with my actual blogging path I wouldn´t be surprised if there were other reasons. I changed my blog into a mixed bag and those that look for blogging resources may get tired of my blog tags, awards and reviews.
I didn´t have the opportunity to research about this topic yet but as soon as I find more information I will update this post.

About Buy Blog Reviews

Do you remember a recent post where I mentioned I was bit disappointed with a certain paid reviews company?
Well, today I´d like to share with you my recent experience with "Buy Blog Reviews" (BBR), the company I had in mind when I wrote that post.
I joined this website in October 2008. In late November, I received a direct hiring request from a client which was interested in a technology review. I wrote the review and it was approved by the advertiser in December 3.
This website´s TOS refers that payments are made every 15 days and if we´re not paid in the first cycle after the review is posted, we will be paid in the next. According to this website´s TOS, I should have been paid in December 15 or in the next cycle.
I waited and waited but nothing happened. This company pays trough Paypal and I know this payment processor is very quick and effective. If someone wants to send money to other person, the process is quick and can be done in just a few minutes.
In January 22, I contacted BBR support for the first time and they answered my mail two days after saying my payment was in process. I waited and waited but once again, nothing happened. I decided to e-mail them again and used a different tone but this time I had no answer.
A few days ago, I received another offer to do a review. I didn´t do this review, for obvious reasons, and contacted support again explaining the whole situation again. Once I didn´t have any answer, I was very sceptic and started suspecting this website was a scam. I was ready to delete the post and say bye bye to the money but I promised myself I would blog about it so other bloggers know.
To my surprise, I received their payment in February 21. Almost three months after I posted my review. If they take so long to pay, why does their TOS says 15 days?
Maybe it´s me. I´m the unlucky person which papers and payments always get lost. Supermarket machines get stuck when it´s my time to pay, etc.

To My EC Droppers
Hi everyone.
First, I´d like to thank all EC droppers that daily visit Night Clicks.
I know how hard it is to keep up that´s why I´m writting this post.
In the next days, due to some offline chores, I won´t be able to return drops as usual. As I mentioned in previous posts, I´m doing my taxes and have other legal things to take care so I´ll have less free time to be online.
I also have a chore I need to take care, urgently. I´m finally trying to fix my notebook. Maybe I need to reboot it so, tonight, I will look for the recovery CD. Tomorow night I will try to fix it. I need a couple hours to save everything I have in CDs but if I reboot it maybe the problems will be solved. I´m crossing my fingers for that.

I also have a chore I need to take care, urgently. I´m finally trying to fix my notebook. Maybe I need to reboot it so, tonight, I will look for the recovery CD. Tomorow night I will try to fix it. I need a couple hours to save everything I have in CDs but if I reboot it maybe the problems will be solved. I´m crossing my fingers for that.

My Actual Communication System
Lately, I´m thinking about changing my current Internet provider. I have a three in one system that includes cable TV, phone and Internet with no limits of usage. This plan is good, it combines the three services for a lower price than contracting them independently.
At first this looked like the perfect solution but since I started using a Prepaid Phone Card for long distance calls I´m not happy anymore.
It doesn´t make much sense to pay for a phone line maintenance every month when I only use it for the Internet. I receive more calls than I do and most friends call me to my cell phone. Since I found about this Calling cards deal that saves me money I think I will contract another provider.
The new Phone Cards available can be recharged and have a point program. Some of this cards don´t have the connection, service or maintenance fees so I only pay what I really use. Plus, I can recharge the phone card online with Paypal or any of the four major credit cards. With this phone cards system I can save money and don´t need to worry about the bills when I call my family abroad.

Blogger Status: A Bit Sad

Hope you´re all having a good Sunday.
As my post tittle says, today I´m a bit sad. There are a few reasons for that, but I´m only going to blog about my online stuff.
I just opened my other blog and when I looked to the greenbar there was nothing left there! Nada, niente, nickles. Great, I only had the chance to do a few reviews and bang! Slapped!
All of this was expected, but I was really caught by surprise. Aren´t we always?
Well, so much work all gone. I´m only trying to make some extra bucks and I´m not the only one. G. Japan did something very ugly too. I´m glad to know that I´m not the only naughty out there :)
Well, enough rants. Crying over the milk won´t bring my blog´s PR back. I need to go back to work and let it go. In fact, I just bought a new domain to make it even :)

We Went to Kid´s Carnival Parade
Hi everyone. A good weekend to all.
Carnival arrived. This weekend there´s party everywhere :)
I don´t celebrate Carnival anymore but my daughter does. Today, she was very excited because there was a Carnival parade for kids from all Faro´s schools. This year, she went to the parade as a clown. She decided to dress as a poor clown some weeks ago so we had enough time to prepare everything.
My mother made her a very nice pair of colorful clown trousers which last Wednesday arrived by mail. We also bought facepaint and some accessories, such as fake hair and nose. The fun part was she insisted in using my husband´s old shoes. Nedless to say, she fell twice because of that but she didn´t mind about it.
When we arrived home, my daughter said she had a great time today. I won´t forget how funny she looked dressed as a poor clown. One of her favorite birthday presents was a magician´s box and she loves the circus so her choice wasn´t that strange to us.
A good Carnival weekend to all that celebrate it!

In my student life I had many challenges. When I look back, my memories take me to a few important moments of transition in national schools, specially in University.
I started University in a transition period called "Bologna Process" which includes most European countries.
This process requires more responsibilities from students in their studies. Students are expected to adopt a self-study attitude and teacher´s role is less expository.
With this changes, students need to study on their own and the teacher only provides guidance in our learning path. This self studies can include essays, book reports, or research papers and are done both individual and in group. Each subject requires, at least, three self-studies each semester which are easier to do in group.

About My Blogs and EC
Hi everyone.
I took a couple days off dropping ECs to put in practice some of my new year´s resolutions. Yes, it´s easy to make resolutions but harder to pursue them.
I finished most changes I had planned for my domain blog and made a new widget for EC. It took me a few nights to put everything right but now I´m finished, and tired too :)
You can laugh right now, I made the widget myself using a photo editor and a picture marker software. I used the image from the header and voilá, a new widget for free :) I hope I´m not breaking any copyright once the layout was free too.
I changed the layout fairly fast but spend a good amout of time writing new posts and organizing labels. I also made one of my frequent deviations to research a Portuguese niche. I´m working to have better Adsense results, which isn´t that easy.
A note to my EC fellows, advertisers and droppers:
I changed my blog´s categories in EC. Night Clicks and NetSource can now be found in the Mixed categorie. My Countryhome remains as a Travel blog only because I´m not sure if I should put it under the Personal Finance categorie. Any suggestions?
I felt the need to change EC categories because my current blogging topics are more mixed than focused in a particular topic. Before, my blogs were under bloging resources and technology categories but, currently, I think the Mixed categorie is a better description.
Although I ranked well in the previous categories I think I did a fair change and I´m blogging about it so others know where to find my blogs.

My Home Office Project
Hi everyone.
One of my new year´s resolutions was to organize my home office. Most times I work in my kitchen, I replaced one of the kitchen chairs for a confortable office chair but once it´s the most cold room in the flat it´s not the best solution. I almost turned my kitchen in an office which isn´t practical at all.
Two years ago, we decided to make a small office in my mother´s room, which is vacant a good part of the year. I already bought a desk and a small library but I didn´t have the chance to complete this project. In the meanwhile, I bought more books and now my small library isn´t enough for so much paper.
After looking in a few shops, I decided to buy bespoke home office furniture that matches my existing library. If I buy a costum office furniture I can chose both the materials and design I like without doing a complete renovation. My perfect home office doesn´t need to be big, one corner furniture with lots of space for books and CDs, a good chair and enough light would be perfect.
I really need to organize my work space, so from now on I´m entering the frugal mode. I will try to save all I can to complete my home office project, after all I deserve.

Quality Time
Tonight, I skipped a few online chores and spent some quality time with my daughter.
I was doing EC drops when she asked to join me.
She´s a fan of some EC blogs and sometimes she asks me to visit them. We browsed a few blogs and ended in a store that has cool Indie Clothing and acessories.
After browsing the whole shop we watched some animation and music videos. When we noticed, it already had passed my daughter´s bedtime. We have so much fun toguether!
It´s amazing how fast she´s growing. The girl already likes fashion and wants to colour her hair, imagine that!
Well, the truth is I enjoy this quality time we spend toguether every day. Sometimes we read stories but lately I´ve been teaching her to search information on the Internet.

Spring Time
Hi.
Today, I feel like posting a recent picture of almond flowers because Spring is arriving to Algarve. I really don´t like cold weather and I´m happy to finally see our "unique" Sun. Yes, unique. At least, that´s what most foreigners I´ve meet say.
Good weather means I can have my leisure time outside. I can finally put in practice one of my new year´s resolution: Swimming pool, park, more exercise! I also need to find some time to take care of our plot, there´s a lot to be done there but this is a topic for My Countryhome.

Funny Spam E-Mails
I don´t know if having my mail in my blogger profile helps but, lately, I´ve been receiving so much spam that I sometimes avoid opening my e-mail. I had days when it took me over one hour to delete all the junk mail I received in three of my mail accounts.
I do receive a lot of incredible make money offers. I also get sales letters of wonderful products that will help me get rich really quick, without any efforts.
Yes, I get those mails about someone who inherited a great amount of money and needs my help to transfer that jackpot to my bank account. I also won a lot of prizes of companies that don´t exist and even won the BMW lottery.
Ah! A BMW... woudn´t mind having one :)
I also get mails advising me that my Alertpay account was blocked due to illegal activities and now I need to provide all my data. The curious thing is I don´t even have one of this accounts.
Recently, I created a Yahoo mail to escape all this mess but after three days the nightmare started again. I don´t remember giving out my mail to anyone, except my family.
The list could go on and on. Oh my! How can I get rid of all this garbidge from my mail-box?

First of all, I´d like to thanks all EC visitors which visited Night Clicks during the weekend but didn´t get a drop back. As I explained, this weekend it was my daughter´s birthday party and I didn´t have enough time to return drops.
Today, my blogger status isn´t very positive, just like my mood. I´m having some problems in my offline life which absorb most of my time and motivation to be online. I won´t get in much details today. Maybe later I will have strengh to blog about it.
I´m also a bit angry with a certain paid reviews company. I´m waiting for a payment that never arrives. If this situation isn´t fixed soon, I´ll post a special about this topic so others bloggers now.

Organizing Papers
February is the time of the year when I need to organize our tax papers. I don´t want to leave this boring task for the last days so I started this week.
I already received most tax forms but now I need to gather all our expenses´ receipts. I think this year I´ll try to use the internet service, it will save time and we will receive our tax money first.
This month, I also need to find a new auto insurance. I´ve been looking for insurance online because some companies make good discounts for new clients. I think I can find a cheaper insurance than we had. Once I already have health insurance I only need to think about our car.
This year, I think I will have a smaller refund than last year. Due to the current economical situation our government decided to increase taxes and it´s the working class who pays the receipt.

As a blogging addicted I can´t be away for too long :)
It´s Saturday night, late, almost 2.00 am (when I started writing this post). I just finished cleaning the revolution kids did in my daughter´s birthday party. The party finished at 8.00 pm and I they all had fun.
My mother and hubby already went to bed so there´s only me, my daughter and Atos. My daughter is playing with the new toys she got, Atos is sleeping in his kitchen chair and I always end up online. Although blogging is a lonely activity, it´s feels like I have company...

In the past months, I joined a few Blog advertising companies. In previous posts I wrote brief reviews of the different companies but only now I´m able to share some results.
I´ve been using both Project Wonderful and Adgitize in some of my blogs. This companies work differently but as a "small fish blogger" like me, you can only expect to make a few bucks each month.
I joined Project Wonderful some months ago and Adgitize only last month. I haven´t reached payout and only earned around four bucks with both companies in all this time.
My best earner in two of my blogs is definitely Adsense. In January, I received another check (iupi!) which felt great for two main reasons. First, January is the month when I have less money due to Christmas presents :) and second because ad clicks are from organic traffic.
Both blogs that made this payment possible are in the first results of G. SE and both get free traffic because people search those keywords every day.
It took a lot of work and learning to get there but I´m happy with results. As you know, I´m not an expert in this matters but maybe I should write more posts sharing my seo experiences, shouldn´t I?

Blogger Status: Preparing a Birthday Party
Hi everyone.
I´m still a bit sick due to the rain shower I got but I just can´t stop. I´ve been busy preparing my daughter´s birthday party. I spent all day cleaning our flat and preparing the living room.
Late in the afternoon I went to the mall and bought two gifts, one for my daughter, a magicians box, and a bottle of perfume to one of her friends which celebrates her birthday next Sunday.
Tomorow, I need to order a birthday cake and buy the rest of fresh goods we need such as cheese, ham, fruit, igredients for pizza, etc.
This weekend, my mother´s is comming for the birthday party. As I mentioned before, when she´s around she wants my attention. I´ll probably skip most of my online chores but maybe at night I´ll have some time to return drops and update some of my blogs.
Well, one thing is sure, I´ll have a lot of work but also fun.

Late in the afternoon I went to the mall and bought two gifts, one for my daughter, a magicians box, and a bottle of perfume to one of her friends which celebrates her birthday next Sunday.
Tomorow, I need to order a birthday cake and buy the rest of fresh goods we need such as cheese, ham, fruit, igredients for pizza, etc.
This weekend, my mother´s is comming for the birthday party. As I mentioned before, when she´s around she wants my attention. I´ll probably skip most of my online chores but maybe at night I´ll have some time to return drops and update some of my blogs.
Well, one thing is sure, I´ll have a lot of work but also fun.

Some Experiences With My Parenting Blog

I´ve mentioned somewhere that one of my latest blogging adventures was starting a blog where I share parenting experiences and thoughts.
Parenting and education are topics I enjoy and are included in my area of studies. I find that writing about this topic can be very interesting and, at the same time, educational.
First, when I started my parenting blog, I wasn´t thinking about ranks and didn´t get many backlinks but later I decided to put in practice some of the things I´ve learned. For example, I only gave a few links out to good related websites and started paying more attention to keywords.
In the previous update, my parenting blog got rank one, but it didn´t last long. After a week, it went back to grey. In that week, the only change I did was adding a third part code from a paid reviews company. The next thing I know, my rank had vanished.
I also checked my outgoing links to see if I was linking to any "bad neighborhood" but the result was negative. All was fine with my links.
Although I´m not sure if it´s related, I already had a feeling that this third part codes was a factor to flag a blog. After my latest experiences I´m now a bit more convinced. My next step with this blog is trying to improve the number of backlinks and check what happens.
The decision of accepting paid advertising is related to the recent changes. With two blogs maybe I will be able to keep earnings as they were before the economic downturn. Another factor that determines my online earnings is currency. European currency and US´ have some differences that I always need to consider.

Blogger Status: After the Storm
Hi everyone.
In my previous blogger status post I mentioned we´re having a storm in my country. I´d like to send a hug to those visitors that commented showing their concern about me.
The rain storm made some damages countrywide but, fortunately, the city I live in wasn´t the most affected. There were some floods downtown but not in my street, TG we were saved.
Last Saturday, I had to go out but there was so much wind that I couldn´t escape the rain. I´m already feeling a little sick because I literally got a shower out there.
We spent the whole Sunday at home. My daughter had some research homeworks to do and then spent a good part of the afternoon watching kids videos online in websites that only offer kid-appropriate videos.
Today the storm continues but with less intensity. We´re back to our normal life but, according to some channel´s forecasts, the bad weather will continue until next Thursday. Unless the storm causes problems to Internet providers, it won´t stop me from blogging :)

Hi.
For this week´s MM, I picked a duet with two singers I enjoy.
When I started replacing my old audio tapes by CD´s, the first one I bought was Simon & Garfunkel - Live in Central Park. Although I don´t listen to this album as often as I did, I still like it very much.
The other singer in this duet isn´t Garfunkel. It´s Willie Nelson, which I admire since teen. He looks so much like my father RIP, or vice versa. The song is Homeward Bound:
