Hello everyone,
Last Wednesday, my daughter´s teacher called me and told me that my daughter wasn´t feeling well. It was my day off so I picked her from school right away. She had an headache and fever. I went to the pharmacy, bought antipyretic and started medicating her. At night, I cooked chicken soup but she didn´t eat because she couldn´t swallow.
The next day, I took her to her babysitter´s house while I went to work. When I picked her up she wasn´t feeling better so I took her to the hospital. She was diagnosed amigdalitis and started taking antibiotic yesterday night. Today, I had to miss my morning shift to take care of her. She´s feeling better now but has to stay home until the fever drops.
Since I started working, last April, it´s the first time I miss my job. I feel a little guilty but I have no choice. Besides her dad, which currently is away, I don´t have anyone to look after my daughter when she´s sick. Her health is way more important to me than my job but I need to work too.
Once my vacations will start next Monday, I´m willing to work one shift to compensate today. Maybe my chief will agree.
See you soon.

Hello World :)
Hope you all had a good weekend. Mine, as usual, was divided between my job, my home, and my daughter. Now that the cold weather arrived, I prefer being cosy at home than going out but a quick visit to the supermarket or the mall is a "must".
For this week´s Music Monday, I picked a recent song that has been passing a lot on the radio. A good voice, catchy lyrics mixed with a dancing beat made this song reach the Top: Nneka singing "Heartbeat".
Happy Monday everyone!
Heartbeat Lyrics:
You said you'd be there for me
In times of trouble when I need you and I'm down
And likewise you need friendship
It's from my side pure love but I see lately things have been changing
You have goals to achieve
But the roads you take are broad are heartless
That wants you make another way
You throw stones
Can you see that I am human I am breathing
But you don't give a damn
Chorus:
Can you feel my heart is beating
Can you see the pain you're causing
Can you feel my heart is beating
Can you see the pain you're causing
Blood blood blood...blood is rushing
And now the world is asleep
How will you ever wake her up when she is deep in her dreams, wishing
And yet so many die
And still we think that it is all about us
It's all about you
You sold your soul to the evil and the lust
And the passion and the money and you
See the same ones die, people hunger for decades
Suffer under civilized armedrobbers, modern slaveholders
Chorus
Blood blood blood.... keeps rushing
Evaded, eliminated, erased, interrogated
Our tradition, our love for our fellow countrymen,
Our property, our resources - our pride
Can you feel my heart beating
No no no...you don't
Chorus

As some of you know, I´m a cat lover.
Last summer, I adopted a stray female cat which my daughter named by Nina. She was only a few months old when I brought her home. She adapted very well and now she´s the official resident of my kitchen´s balcony.
Nina became my daughter´s best friend and, at night, she´s my blogging buddy. Well, sometimes she falls asleep in a comfortable black office chair I have in my kitchen. Just like the picture above shows. I was doing one of my blogging nights while she was taking a nap.
Now that she´s turning into an adult cat, it´s time to think of her health. I have a friend who is a vet and, from my previous experiences with cats, I already know what I need to do. First, she needs to take vaccines and after I´ll look for cheap pet meds online. With my other cats, I had a good experience with Frontline Plus discount but I´ve read that Advantage flea is also an effective product for cat and dog parasites. Frontline controls fleas and ticks that infest your pet while Advantage is specifically used to kill fleas. Once Nina stays inside all the time I think I won´t have major parasites problems but if she gets infested at least I already know what to do.
Now, I can´t go away for long. I have another kid at home to take care :)

Hello!
This week, I´m not skipping Music Monday, no, no. Plus, it´s my 50th MM edition!
And because this weekend was my best friend´s birthday, I´m dedicating today´s MM to her. B has been a Bon Jovi huge fan for such a long time...
So, for this week´s MM, I picked Bon Jovi and the song "Make A Memory", a Live Tokyo 2008 HD video.
Happy Monday!
Make a Memory Lyrics:
Hello again, it’s you and me
Kinda always like it used to be
Sippin' wine, killing time
Trying to solve life’s mysteries.
How’s your life, it’s been a while
God it’s good to see you smile
I see you reaching for your keys
Looking for a reason not to leave.
If you don’t know if you should stay
If you don’t say what’s on your mind
Baby just, breathe there’s no where else tonight we should be-
You wanna make a memory.
I dug up this old photograph
Look at all that hair we had
It’s bittersweet to hear you laugh
Your phone is ringing, I don’t wanna ask.
If you go now, I’ll understand
If you stay, hey, I got a plan
You wanna make a memory
You wanna steal a piece of time
You could sing a melody to me
And I could write a couple lines
You wanna make a memory.
If you don’t know if you should stay
And you don’t say what’s on your mind
Baby just, breathe there’s no where else tonight we should be-
You wanna make a memory

Hello everyone.
I´ve been busy as a bee...so much that this week I skipped my usual Music Monday edition but I hope to be back next Monday.
Ok, about my post´s tittle. Some months ago, I bought a five letters domain with my nick name: Mizé. Right after breaking up with S., I didn´t know what to do with My Countryhome blog, my motivation to keep it wasn´t much but one thing I don´t like is quitting. Blogging about our plot and our joint finances didn´t make much sense anymore but once I enjoy blogging about personal finances, I decided to start over somewhere else. So, I bought another domain with the intention of blogging only about Personal Finances and started writing for it.
I started this new blog just for fun and because I enjoy Personal Finances topics very much. I think I´ll never be rich (unless I win the lottery or something like that) but being Financially Independent is a realistic goal. So, my new blog, called Mizé Journey, is about my journey from almost broke to Financially Independent (and intelligent).
Hope you can visit me there too.
See you soon :)

Adsense Payment Arrived

That´s right! Last Tuesday, I received another Adsense payment in my mail box.
In 2009, my Adsense earnings have increased substantially thanks to my Portuguese blogs.
My Portuguese blogs rank well in Google´s search engine and I receive a good number of daily visitors that click on ads. Don´t ask me why they click, lol, they just do it and I get my editor´s earnings.
My formula works and I´m happy it does. It wasn´t easy to reach this stage, I had to research keywords, write content, get links and I need to keep working to maintain my blogs.
The good thing is I only blog about topics I enjoy. I don´t keep blogs or websites only for the money. On top of all, I enjoy blogging. Over the past two years, maybe I´ve become a blogging addict but the money I earn trough my blogs is only the cherry on top of the cake. I´m not a Pro blogger at all, plus, most of my blogs are in English which isn´t my mother tongue.
I already explained "my formula" but I´ll do it again:
To earn money trough Adsense you need to research keywords with a good number of monthly searches and low competition (use Google´s keyword tool to check this). Then, you need to create a website/blog about those specific keywords, write optimized content for those keywords and apply SEO techniques. If you´re able to rank well in search engines, you´ll get free traffic from them.
Use a good website design, place your ads well and wait for visitor´s to click on them. This is my perspective on how Adsense can be profitable, it sounds simple but it´s not. It takes a lot of work, specially with blogs, but I think it can pay off.

Hello everyone,
Hope you all had a good weekend. Mine was really nice. I had two days off in a row and had plenty rest. We went to the Halloween Parade and had fun, specially my daughter.
Another week just started and its time for Music Monday.
For this week´s edition I picked "Depeache Mode", a group I started enjoying in the late 80s. I like many of their songs but once I can only pick one, I selected "Precious".
Depeache Mode will perform live in Lisbon next November 14. This is a special date to me because it´s the birthday of one of my best friends.
I can´t go to the concert (I wish I could...) but I can watch their videos and remember how much I used to dance in the disco when the DJ decided to play their tunes, along with Joy Division, New Order, Cure and other hits of those days.
Happy Monday!
Precious Lyrics:
Precious and fragile things
Need special handling
My God what have we done to You?
We always try to share
The tenderest of care
Now look what we have put You through...
Things get damaged
Things get broken
I thought we'd manage
But words left unspoken
Left us so brittle
There was so little left to give
Angels with silver wings
Shouldn't know suffering
I wish I could take the pain for You
If God has a master plan
That only He understands
I hope it's Your eyes He's seeing through
Things get damaged
Things get broken
I thought we'd manage
But words left unspoken
Left us so brittle
There was so little left to give
I pray You learn to trust
Have faith in both of us
And keep room in Your heart for two
Things get damaged
Things get broken
I thought we'd manage
But words left unspoken
Left us so brittle
There was so little left to give

Modern Lifestyle and Seniors
One research paperwork I did for my course was about geriatrics. Portuguese population has a high percentage of seniors that live from retirement pensions. Retirement pensions are very low and most of these seniors income can´t even cover their basic needs.
Families have busy lifestyles, most couples work over eight hours daily so they don´t have much time to look after their kids and seniors. Many seniors are isolated and don´t have enough social support.
On the other hand, Senior Housing have high costs, many are overcrowded and don´t have enough resources to receive more occupants. Many seniors need a skilled nursing facility because they have different health problems. Others aspire Senior independent living but their income is not enough and families can´t help them either. It´s a sad reality and one of the biggest disadvantages of the so called modern lifestyle.
Statistics show that larger families don´t live together as they used to some decades ago. By all these reasons, many seniors are left to their luck without proper support.
More recently, government has created home health-care options for those in need but they have huge wait lists. Can a senior wait a few years to receive proper care? Not at all. We need to create more senior social support structures to our elders, and fast.
